St. Francis Xavier Parish has a Parish Pastoral Council as mandated by the Archdiocese. This Council’s mission statement is "To Move Closer to God in all that we do." In fulfilling this mission, we are a Roman Catholic community called to: Celebrate in Prayer and Eucharist, Dedicate ourselves to religious education, Serve and Love our parish family, and Reach Out to the larger community.
Our mission as a Pastoral Council is to share responsibility for the pastoral life of St. Francis Xavier Parish under the leadership of the pastor. In this context, the purpose of the Council is to prayerfully engage with parishioners, staff, and pastor in common reflection about the parish’s mission and ministry. The Pastoral Council has four basic functions as an official advisory and consultative body for the parish:
1. To research the needs, ideas and hopes of the faith community
2. To encourage and support existing ministries
3. To evaluate the quality of life of the parish faith community
4. To plan for the parish’s future by recommending policies, procedures and programs that will implement its values and fulfill the church’s mission.
What the Council is not –
The Council is not a political body. Members offer their suggestions for the parish to the pastor through a method of shared discernment and recommendation. New items for discernment must be passed through the Council convener and approved by the pastor. Members represent various demographics of the parish – young and old, male and female, new parishioners and long time parishioners, all of whom have participated in different ministries and organizations in the parish. Members serve no longer than 3 years in a position.
SFX Parish Pastoral Council Seeks New Members
The Pastoral Council members serve a three year term and attend monthly Monday evening meetings, except for July and August. Being on Council is a wonderful way to offer your vision for the parish and gain a broader perspective of parish mission and goals. Greg Proteau will be the Convener of the Council for 2012-13.
The Council consults with, advises and makes recommendations to the pastor about current parish issues, and long-range planning.
The members of the Council are called Liaisons because their role is to keep in contact with the various organizations that run the activities of our parish with the purpose of listening and communicating on behalf of the Council. The various organizations have been organized into Parish Council Clusters as follows:
Worship - The Liaison is Caesar Vitale.
Education and Formation - The Liaison is Mary Claire Belton.
Parish Life - The Liaison is Julie Conway.
Human Concerns - The Liaison is Suzy McNamara.
Stewardship - A new committee which is dedicated to encouraging the involvement of parishioners in activities.
Newcomers - The Liaison is Bozenna Haszlakiewicz.
You may contact any of these Council members through the Parish Office.
